This morning I woke up feeling a little depressed.
I immediately felt frustrated and angry with my brain for being like this, and started racking it for reasons why and how I could fix this feeling.
“You’re going searching again,” says my therapist when I do this, and I roll my eyes at her…because she’s right. Per usual.
In this grind-y culture and the general landscape that is 2023, it’s pretty easy to find ways to feel depressed.
It’s harder to find joy, but it’s so worth it to look for—or create—even a moment that will bring you just a little bit of joy. Smiling at someone you walk past, seeing the world through your human or furry child’s eyes, marveling at nature, that first (or seventh, no judgment) cup of coffee.
Even (especially) if you’re rolling your eyes at this right now.
